Emergency school closure today
Dear parents and carers,
Bournville Primary School early release today due to burst water main
Due to circumstances beyond our control, Bournville Primary School will be closing by 12:00pm today, 29 September 2026 having been alerted by the water company, Bristol Water, of a burst water main on land adjacent to the school. All children and staff are safe and unaffected, as there is currently a sufficient amount of drinking water available.
The school will close at 12:00pm. Pupils should be picked up by their parents/carers by 12:00pm. Should you wish for your child to be collected by another parent who is not currently on the collection list for your child, please email the school office naming your child, class number and adult who will be collecting today. This includes the nursery, preschool and main school.
As a result of this issue, we are experiencing very low water pressure across the school. This means we cannot reliably provide essential services, including:
- safe and adequate toilet facilities
- handwashing facilities for pupils and staff
- access to running water throughout the building
- appropriate hygiene and cleaning arrangements.
The health, safety and wellbeing of our pupils and staff must always come first. Unfortunately, without a sufficient water supply, we cannot operate the school safely and therefore have no option but to close until the issue is resolved.
We appreciate that this may cause inconvenience for families and apologise for the short notice. We are working closely with Bristol Water to monitor the situation and will provide an update as soon as we have further information. We will make a decision at 5:00pm today as to whether school can reopen tomorrow, Wednesday 30 September 2026.
Please continue to check your emails, texts, the school website and social media pages for updates regarding reopening arrangements.
Thank you for your understanding and support.
Yours sincerely,
Jo Jaloszynski James Oakley
Headteacher ELAN Chief Executive
